050810 – National Autistic Society - Lisburn Distillery’s nominated charity for 2010-2011

The National Autistic Society Northern Ireland will be our club charity of the season for 2010/11.

It is the only charity permitted to undertake matchday collections at New Grosvenor during the 2010-2010 season and they will be collecting this Saturday when Lisburn Distillery take on Glentoran in the Carling Premiership

The National Autistic Society is the UK's leading charity for people affected by autism. In Northern Ireland over 17,000 have autism, if you count their immediate family autism impacts on the lives of over 68,000 people. Despite this autism is still relatively unknown and misunderstood, which means that many of these people do not get the level of help, support and understanding they need.

The National Autistic Society Northern Ireland provides information advice and support, they campaign and lobby for lasting positive change for those affected by autism. Their services include family support, education advice, an outreach service for adults, befriending schemes and social programmes for people with autism. They have 11 branches providing local sources of information and support.

The National Autistic Society Northern Ireland works across Northern Ireland to provide a range of services to children and adults with autism and their families and carers. In order to provide these services they are reliant on our fundraising activities and the generosity of the Northern Ireland public – we hope to support them at New Grosvenor this season.

With support from the EU funded Football For All Project, Donegal Celtic Football Club hosted a Community and Business Workshop on Monday 20th September 2010, supported by Chairmen and Community Relations Officers from Linfield, Crusaders, Lisburn Distillery, Crumlin United and Bangor football clubs.

Whites’ chairman Bobby Hanna, and Community Relations Officer Stevie Nutt attended the event and are pictured below with other delegates.

The workshop highlighted how mainstreaming a community focus at the heart of a football club’s business strategy can encourage partnerships with local authorities and commercial sponsors. Support from the EU funded anti-sectarian Football For All project was offered to all the clubs to help them with community audits and the development of new Community Relations strategies and funding plans.

You can find more information on the workshop along with further photographs by clicking here.

The Irish Football Association’s EU Funded Football For All programme fully endorses the UNITE AGAINST HATE campaign. That programme seeks to make the sport of football safe, welcoming and inclusive and therefore intolerance and hatred toward those with a different skin colour, religious belief, sexual orientation, disability or any other difference should not be accepted in our society – Lisburn Distillery likewise endorses the campaign and welcomes everyone to a safe football environment at New Grosvenor Stadium.

181211 Ballynahinch Youth Visit

We were delighted to host a large party of girls and boys from Ballynahinch Youth at yesterday’s Carling Premiership game against Carrick Rangers.

The visit was organised in line with our ongoing Communities Relations programme and after the pre-match photograph below the group was shown round the New Grosvenor Memorabilia exhibition.

It was a very enjoyable visit; the group were a credit to themselves and their club and whilst the result on the pitch went against Lisburn Distillery the youngsters gave the team real vocal encouragement. We hoped they enjoyed their visit here too.

We also thank our players, Grant Gardiner, Aaron Traynor, Mark Patton and Scott Davidson who held a half-time Question and Answer session with the boys and girls from Ballynahinch.

You can find out more about Ballynahinch Youth on their website.

The club welcomes similar visits from other groups – to find out more email us here.

160112 - New Community Relations Officer

Lisburn Distillery Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Ged Irwin as the club's new Community Relations Officer.

Ged (pictured top right)  who previously held the role of Academy Chairman took up his new role in December 2011 when his first duty was to welcome 50 young players plus the coaches of Ballynahinch Youth FC.

Speaking to Lisburn-Distillery.net Ged said that: “I am delighted with this new role within the club and hope to continue the good work started by my predecessor Stevie Nutt.”

He added; “Community Relations for Premier League clubs is now an important part of the League's domestic licensing criteria. We are guided by UEFA's 10-point plan which outlines the measures that club's can take to stamp out racism in football.

Beyond the Licensing aspect, I look at my role as a chance to promote the club through organised trips from schools, youth clubs and youth football clubs to watch one of the first team games at New Grosvenor. It is also our intention to reinstate our popular Primary 6 Schools Cup last held in October 2010.

I also feel that small-sided football matches between our Academy players at home games is an ideal way to introduce our younger players to Irish League football. Lisburn Distillery has the reputation for being a friendly, family club which is something that gives us a good foundation to build on for the future.”

If you would like to contact Ged regarding school or youth club visits please email him on this link.
